Encourage employees to do what they enjoy

8/31/2015–Give extra slack to an employee who says, “I love this type of  work”. That employee probably needs less management on a passion project than other projects they’re  given. Further, they  may  or may not notice the extra slack they’re given, but they are likely to be discouraged by frequent status updates compared to modest status reporting. Therefore, there is greater possible reward and no more risk when an employee is given extra slack on a project they’re passionate about.

This resembles the idea of delegating work to  reliable  employees based on whether or not they like it. For example, if I hate following up with customers and I have a direct who loves it and could benefit from it, I should consider delegating it and ensuring they are able to do it as well as I can in a reasonable amount of time. The reality that they also  likely make less salary than I do makes this move even more valuable for the company, since the same work is being done for cheaper.

Today I achieved the  goal  I  set out to  accomplish when I quit the restaurant industry. I  accepted a job at a great company, which will allow me to fund my passions, and most importantly, to do my priority as  best as  possible (i.e. prepare to be a good  dad). I’ve  turned my focus now toward using my gifts for others and piecing together subsequent parts of my desired future, i.e. a wife and back-up plan for income. All the while, I continue to spend time as if it were limited, since it is limited.
